Adjusting the SRAM Eagle Transmission shifting

The Transmission is actually self-adjusting, but if it doesn't shift smoothly, a few simple checks will do the trick:

1. Check the battery

Before you change any settings:

  • Check to see if the AXS battery on the rear derailleur is fully charged
  • A nearly empty battery often results in slower gear shifts

2. Realign the rear derailleur (setup position)

Here's how to adjust your rear derailleur:

  1. Park your bike on level ground
  2. Press and hold the AXS button on the rear derailleur until the rear derailleur moves into the setup position
  3. Check whether the mark on the rear derailleur mount (white line) is aligned
  4. Press the AXS button briefly to return to normal mode

3. Use Micro-Adjust

The Transmission can be fine-tuned without screws using only the AXS controller or the SRAM AXS app:

  1. Shift to a middle sprocket
  2. Hold down the AXS button on the controller until it starts flashing green → Micro-Adjust active
  3. You can adjust the position of the rear derailleur in small increments using the controller or the app:
    • Press the lever once + → The rear derailleur moves slightly further outward
    • Press the lever once – → The rear derailleur moves slightly inward
  4. After each click, tap the pedal briefly and check that the shifting is smooth

When everything is running smoothly → The mode exits automatically after a few seconds.

4. Check the chain

A chain that is too short or too long can cause shifting problems.
Guideline: Transmission needs exactly the length recommended by SRAM – never shorten it unless absolutely necessary.

5. Derailleur Hanger? Doesn’t exist

In the past, if the derailleur hanger was bent, the gears wouldn't shift properly.
With Transmission, that's not necessary, but:
Check that the frame connection is undamaged.

That’s it! When the Transmission is properly adjusted, it shifts quietly and smoothly, even under full load.
